About the memorial: THREE LIGHT STAINED GLASS WINDOW SURMOUNTED BY AN OCULUS. FIGURES DEPICTED IN EACH LIGHT. DEDICATORY BRASS PLAQUE MOUNTED ONTO A WOODEN BACKBOARD WITH INCISED INSCRIPTION IN ENAMELLED BLACK LETTERING. LEFT LIGHT: ST GEORGE IS DEPICTED KILLING THE DRAGON WITH ST AUGUSTINE SLIGHTLY ABOVE HIM. AT THE BASE IS THE FIGURE OF A KNEELING SOLDIER CENTRE LIGHT: OUR LADY IN GLORY WITH THE INFANT CHRIST AND A SCEPTRE OF LILIES RIGHT LIGHT: ST NICHOLAS OF MYRA IS DEPICTED WITH ST OSWALD SLIGHTLY ABOVE HIM. FIGURE OF A SAILOR KNEELING IS AT THE BOTTOM RIGHT CORNER OCULUS: RISEN CHRIST REIGNING IN GLORY. The centre light was unveiled in 1922, the side lights in 1925 and the Oculus in 1927. The plaque has been changed at some time as an old photograph shows the dates as 1914 to 1919 rather than 1914 to 1918 as now, also the phrase "The stained glass of the east window of this church2 formerly read "The centre light of the east window of this Church"

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
