About the memorial: Rectangular white marble tablet within a red marble frame. The frame has at the top a coat of arms of Exeter flanked by ferns and at the base a latin cross. The inscription is incised in black roman capitals with the names listed in two columns. The IWM Register entry is wrong to title the memorial for the school, as the inscription clearly refers to parish. In fact Maynard School is an independent girls' school, the second oldest in the country.
