About the memorial: Hospital ward with a brass dedication plaque in a light oak frame. Inside the ward was a framed photograph of her giving a detailed narrative of her life. The Hospital closed in 2008. The current location of the memorial is unknown.

Plaque- To commemorate the naming of/Margaret Dryburgh Ward/15 August 1996; Photograph- This ward has been named in memory of Sunderland-born/missionary Margaret Dryburgh, to commemorate her life-long/commitment to caring for the needs of others.//Margaret spent most of her young life at Swalwell, where her father/Reverend William Dryburgh was minister for 16 years at the/Ebenezer Chapel, Market Lane.// Her interest in missionary work was sprang from her mother's/involvement with the local branch of the Women's Missionary/Association, and in 1919 Margaret left her teaching job at Ryhope/Grammar School, Sunderland, to take up posts at missionary/schools in China and Singapore.// Margaret was captured by the Japanese when war broke out in/1942. During three years of captivity in Sumatra, she helped boost/the morale of the British, Australian and Dutch women and children/held in the camps by organising concerts and services and running/a school. Margaret is also remembered for the many poems and/hymns she wrote during her lifetime.// She died without regaining her freedom on 21 April 1945./Margaret Dryburgh (1880-1945)
