Status: On subsequent site(s)
Type: Freestanding
Location: External
Setting: Within a garden/park/churchyard/enclosure/Marketplace
Description: Stone of remembrance
  • Stone Granite
Lettering: Incised
  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: This is a curious case. This is the original gravestone from his grave in France, which was replaced in 1921/1922, and this original was brought over to England. As such jt is now effectively a stone of remembrance. It has not actually be seen, but is considered likely to be in good condition and well cared for. As this was erected in the field in 1916 it will NOT be a standard CWGC white portland stone. The lettering is likely to be quite crude
