About the memorial: 11 acre Recreation park designed for the workmen at High Dock. Cenotaph 13 feet high. At the top is a wreath carved in high relief, with the dates in the centre. The inscription is carved on the front face below the wreath. The names are in two columns on both front and rear faces. On the rear face are the details of the donation of the monument by the Company. The Recreation Ground was sold in 1925 to the YMCA after the works had moved to North Shields, and then sold again for development, part may now be part of Harton Cemetery. The Cenotaph has vanished without trace.
