About the memorial: See the explanatory press report in the comments below. The memorial was removed from its original location in the street which bears his name, but was supposed to be returned there. It is a little concerning that the press report is from 2009 and there has been no follow-up. The pin has been placed in Samson Street Carnoustie at a spot where google street view appears to show a memorial plaque attached to a wall at the junction with Rose Street. Local investigation is needed to see if this is the Samson plaque. A follow up request with a local contact has been made to pursue this matter on 10 June 2021- it will be seen if anything more can be found out.
