About the memorial: Single light Stained Glass Window. It depicts Christ in majesty with a Bishop's crown surmounted by a cross in his left hand and his right arm raised in blessing. Above his head is a shield bearing the Paschal Lamb. The dedication is on the foot of the window. Note that he was lost on HMS Sargasso which was mined and sunk off The Needles, Isle of Wight. 21 of the 25 crew survived the sinking. It is unclear what role HMS Bridlington played in the story- whether she was his first ship, or one of the rescue vessels. Update 18 January 2022: My uncle was on loan to the HMS Sargasso, when his own ship, HMS Bridlington was in dock for repair. HMS Sargasso was temporarily short of a telegraphist, so my Uncle Billy was seconded on a temporary basis. He was last seen alive on the deck of the ship as she was going down. Another crew member gave Billy his own life jacket. It is believed that he was tangled up in the Sargasso's rigging as it went down.
