About the memorial: A square, stone box like structure with stone slabs on the top around the edges. Filled with cement (?) with small stones pushed/fixed in to the top. Small stones then painted red and black in a mosaic style to represent a poppy shape. Brass plaque explaining memorial purpose and design fixed to one of top stone slabs. In front of the town war memorial.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

This memorial was erected to commemorate the 100-year anniversary of the end of the First World War./ The painted rocks that form the mosaic were painted and created by local children as part of the Thorne Rocks initiative in 2018./ The Rocks will now serve as a lasting legacy of tribute to all those that sacrificed their lives in defence of our freedom during First World War./ The memorial was designed and built by Doncaster College Construction students./ 1918-2018/ Lest We Forget./
