About the memorial: Addition to family gravestone. Although listed on the stone as the sons of Robert and Annie Leishman (nee Brown), Charles Rhodes was Robert's step-son. Charles Rhodes was born 28th August 1883 at 17 Stone Street, Gourock to James Rhodes, House Painter (Journeyman) and Ann Rhodes (nee Brown). His parents, James (age 20) and Ann (age 17) married at 17 Stone Street Gourock on 21st August 1883. His father James died on 23rd April 1886 - cause of death given on his Death Certificate was Diabetes and Phthisis (TB). His widowed mother subsequently married Robert Leishman on 2nd March 1888 at Greenock. The above information was taken from Birth, Marriage and Death Certificates.
