About the memorial: Blue-covered Memorial Books with gold lettering and a floral representation of the YMCA's triangle symbol on the front, containing printed details of the sponsorship of rooms at the Manchester YMCA's Montgomery House (separate report). There are two books, each containing the same information, but one is thicker, having the printed information set between many blank pages. The printed pages are also soiled - perhaps from it having been the copy which was on display in the hostel chapel. The hostel was sold by the YMCA in 1986 and the books were removed and placed in the care of Manchester Libraries. (See also a separate report for the Caen Stone, the Foundation Stone for the hostel, also removed in 1986.) Plaques were affixed to the doors of the hostel rooms, commemorating the donors, and/or those who fell, mostly in WW2, in whose memories the donations were made. Also recorded in the book are other individuals, communities, and companies who funded rooms. Some of the companies used the opportunity to create a memorial to employees lost or served in the war. The book is divided into sections: 1. Donors for the public rooms; 2. Donors of bedrooms in memory of Officers and Men lost in WW2; 3. Companies who funded rooms in memory of staff who lost their lives; 4. Private donors of bedrooms; 5. Communities and companies who funded rooms, two of which commemorate staff who served, and two of which commemorate WW1 losses. The entries in each section are in alphabetical order. The room names or numbers allocated to each donation are recorded in the captions for the images. The whereabouts of the door plaques is unknown. Originally in the Chapel at Montgomery House, Demesne Road, Manchester, now in the Archives Department at Central Library. Two WW1 and 34 WW2 names
