About the memorial: Addition to, now recumbent, gravestone. This is a bit of a strange one, where a laminated CWGC Certificate has been added to the Mundell family gravestone which does not otherwise mention him. However on checking that certificate shows errors in the CWGC data-1. John McAllister was the illegitimate son of 19 year old Elizabeth Speirs McAllister. He was born 19th April 1898 at Glenmavis, by Airdrie. 2. Elizabeth Speirs McAllister, whose occupation was listed as Domestic Servant, married William Mundell at Greyfriars Manse, Dumfries on 7th April 1905. 3. The CWCG Certificate attached to the gravestone lists him as son of William and Elizabeth McAllister McMundell, of Townhead, Claddens, Airdrie. The family surname is in fact MUNDELL – not McMUNDELL.
