About the memorial: Wall mounted wooden backboard supporting a bronze plaque with a small raised Cross above text. Sources vary as to whether his surname was Whittington-Green, hyphenated or Whittington Green (non-hyphenated) or just Green. This demonstrates a common issue around names on war memorials - they can vary as when many lists were compiled the requirement to consistently spell names the same way did not exist as there were no computers around to be matching it up! The inscription on the plaque and the booklet referred to in the Comments section use the non-hyphenated version so that has been used as the title for this record to reflect the detail on the actual physical war memorial. The booklet refers to him as Green, C.W. The IWM War Memorials Register title uses a hyphen. CWGC and thus Army records use the hyphenated version (although quote his parent's names using the non-hyphenated version, as, oddly, does his medal card). Inspection of General Register Office records does not suggest that 'Whittington' was his mother's maiden name. But it would seem that he chose to serve under the hyphenated version of his name. The Radley College reference uses both versions of his surname.
