About the memorial: Rectangular white marble tablet with black line border. Motifs in each corner from each of the services. Lettering incised in black, names in two columns. This seems to be a partial remake. Inlaid in the ornamental headpiece is a rose with the Title; National United Service Club At the opposite corners appear figures of cannons. Below is the general panel. This is surmounted by a scroll in which appears the Inscription; Emblems of the varied services were ornamented at each corner of the tablet. As part of the War Memorial scheme a large photograph of the first 60 men who enlisted from the club was hung on the east wall. It was noted that of the 280 members of the club 269 joined the services. However, this photograph appears to be lost. The Club was originally at Wellington Fold, Darwen

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
