About the memorial: As an official war memorial, the chapel was established with money raised by the parents of James and Kenneth Addy, two brothers who fell in The Great War. The Scarborough Mercury stated that the Bishop of Hull dedicated a new chapel in the southwestern corner of St. Martin's Church on Monday 11th July 1921 in memory of men from the parish who lost their lives in The Great War. A triptych displaying a complete list of those who died was originally located in the chapel but now resides on a shelf on the north wall of the church opposite the chapel. In 1987 the chapel was converted into The Parish Office and today it is the kitchen for the church's new café “Beggar’s Belief,” which was officially opened by The Bishop of Beverley on Sunday 12th September 2021.
