About the memorial: Pedimented marble tablet. In a recess behind the wall of the lifts. Earlier this century the church underwent a 30 month refurbishment. certain memorial tablets were retained on the walls throughout the building work. This memorial has been retained but unfortunately is now in a small recess behind the wall of the new lifts. Lt Richmond was killed in an engagement on the North West Frontier

IN MEMORY OF/GEORGE MITCHELL RICHMOND/LIEUTENANT 20TH PUNJAB INFANTRY/BORN 20TH NOVEMBER 1839, DIED 27TH OCTOBER 1863 OF A WOUND/RECEIVED THE PREVIOUS DAY/AT THE UMBEYLA PASS ON THE NORTH WEST FRONTIER OF INDIA/IN THE DESPATCH OF THE COMMANDER IN CHIEF/HIS DEATH IS THUS MENTIONED/"Lieutenant Richmond when about to be relieved at the expiration/of his tour of duty, prevailed on his commanding officer- because it was/a post of danger- to allow him to remain four successive days in charge/of the eagles nest picquet, where he was killed by a bullet through his head"/_______/HIS BROTHER OFFICERS ERECT THIS TABLET, TO MARK THEIR LOVE OF A/BRAVE AND TRUE COMRADE, WHOSE LIFE WAS AS HONOURABLE AS HIS DEATH
