About the memorial: A small shrine in the form of a triptych, containing the names of 113 men from the parish who died in WW1. The memorial was raised by subscription among the parishioners of St John the Evangelist and unveiled 23rd April 1920 by Archdeacon P. A. Derry. Originally situated at the north side of the transept near the pulpit. Centre is of copper with a figure of a knight, sword reversed and head bowed, set against a red flag of St George on a beaten background of brick pattern. Above, in traceried domed top, is a red enamel shield of St John with a bronze eagle. The folding doors are of brass and contain the names on the inside, which are raised in half relief. The whole is framed in dark oak.
