About the memorial: A large complex of buildings including changing rooms , meeting rooms , a bar , tennis courts and football / cricket pitches . In one of the main meeting rooms is a war memorial board which is a very similar version of one of earlier date at King Edward VI Grammar School Chelmsford , This version has one additional name to the version located at the school . The board is made of oak , with a central panel largely rectangular with a sloping top and small indents at the bottom corners . Within a frame of darker wood there is the School emblem , consisting of the Royal Coat of Arms without mantling , crest or supporters at top the Initials E R and the date 1551 at each side of the shield , below that the school motto and the dedication , The Coat of Arms is in natural colour and the dedication is incised and darkened . There are two further panels extending horizontally from the centre , each with three frames in darker wood and containing the names in two columns , WW1 on the left and WW2 on the right .All the names are incised and darkened .

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
