Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.
If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.
The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.
Please be aware that a summary of your enquiry, without your contact details, will appear on this page once submitted. This ensures others are aware that an enquiry has been made and can read the response to avoid duplicate enquiries. Cup: PRIVATE CHARLES NORMAN ASHTON/ THE LIVERPOOL SCOTTISH/ DIED OF WOUNDS 25TH SEPTEMBER 1918 Base left side front silver plaque: ASHTON/ MEMORIAL CUP/ In memory of/ Private Charles Norman Ashton/ 1st/10th (Scottish) Battalion/ Tne King's (Liverpool) Regiment T.F./ Died of wounds 25th September 1918/ "Life, to be sure, is nothing much to lose. But young men think it is, and we were young." Base right hand silver plaque: ASHTON/ MEMORIAL CUP/ For comradeship and unselfishness./ The gift of/ his Friend and comrade-in-arms/ Harvey Mullen Watson/ 1900-1994/ "Tell them I came, and no one answered. Tell them I kept my word." Base reverse side on left: In grateful memory of/ 4251/356132 CHARLES NORMAN ASHTON/ who died 25th September 1918 of extensive wounds/ received at Festubert, France and is buried in/ the British Military Cemetery neat Boulogne./ Aged 19 years and 6 Days, he served five years with the Liverpool Scottish and for the last 3 years of his life was the constant friend and comrade-in-arms of 5771/359921 H.M. Watson who offered this memorial in acknowledgement thereof. Base reverse side on right: (Names of awardees inscribed annually)
