About the memorial: Photographs of two plaques. Full text of the contribution from Jessie Denholm- "Hopetoun Church was formed in 1962 by the union of St James' Church and Guthrie Memorial and was united with Greenside Church in 1974. It would not have had a war memorial for Hopetoun Church as such and there are already postings for the separate memorials for St James' (WMO/288457) and Guthrie Memorial (WMO/289886). I think that the Memorial shown would have come from a different group of churches which came into Greenside through a later union between Greenside and Hillside (in 1978). Hillside was formed in 1956 through a union between Lady Glenorchy's North and Barony & St James' Place Church. Since whereabouts of the memorial for Lady Glenorchy's North (WMO/191818 for the WW1 original and WMO/288378 for the modern replacements) is already known it seems probable that the memorial shown came from the Barony & St James Place Church which was located located at the corner of Albany Street and Broughton Street. That church was itself the result of a union in 1933 and from 1900 to 1929 would have been known as St Mary's United Free Church. I think it is probable that it was the memorial for St Mary's United Free/Barony rather than St James' Place church but can't prove this.' Hopetoun Church is closed and demolished and worship is now in Greenside Church.
