About the memorial: Processional Cross. From CWGC- husband of Ethel Edna Summers (formerly Barnsley), of Mount Stuart, Boscombe. Served in the South African Campaign. Checking with the General Register Office shows that she had remarried Sydney A Summers in the 4th quarter of 1915. Her maiden name had been Welsh, and her marriage to Alan Barnsley had been in 1906 in the Ormskirk area. This is an explanatory note from the Church- "We are also still trying to ascertain a processional cross, the Parish Magazine for December 1919 records (as written by the then Rector George Barnsley). "Processional Cross- given by a lady in memory of her brother who was killed in Oct. 1914. His grave can not be found, so no cross can be placed there so she is giving this cross as his memorial. We hope to have it by Christmas." His brother was Alan Arthur Barnsley [only the first forename is used by CWGC], Capt, 4th Lanc[ashire] Fus[iliers] attd 1st Northumberland Fus[iliers] killed in action between 25 and 27 October 1914 aged 37. Our current cross has no inscription bit older members of our congregation say it has been in church since before the 1930's so it may well be the one mentioned above. I hope to go through the terriers in the archives to ascertain if indeed this is the cross we are still using, and if so it is also a war memorial" He is also commemorated on the County Borough of Bournemouth Roll of Honour-WMO/72324
