About the memorial: Triptych 4 feet high x 18 inches wide (when closed). It has a central section (with hinged doors) 2 feet 6 inches high x 10 inches wide, between a pedestal below and triangular pediment above. The pediment contains the words “For God, King and Country” in gilded block sans serif capitals with black shadowing. The inner central panel has a copper cross, above whose arms are the words “Greater love hath no man than this”, in block red sans serif capitals with black shadowing. Below the arms of the cross are the names of the casualties from both World Wars. The names of those who survived their World War 1 service are on the inner panels of the doors, hand-painted in Old English black lettering with red initials. A small plaque attached discreetly to the memorial states that it was constructed from materials from the former training ship H.M.S. Britannia. It is on the north wall of the nave, but was originally mounted externally- see the newspaper report under the comments tab.
