About the memorial: Illuminated Paper Roll of Honour behind glass in a wide mahogany frame. There is a wide border of leaves and flowers with squares containing flowers at regular intervals. At centre top is a badge surrounded by laurel leaves. Below the dedication are the names of those who died, followed by the names of those who served. All names are listed in three columns. The lettering is all hand written using an archaic script, in capital letters throughout, using black ink with some initials illuminated in red in the dedication. It is in the Chapel, on the south wall to the right of the main entrance. The School only became Barnard Castle School on the same site in 1914, so the North Eastern County School (the original name) is the correct one for this memorial.
