Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.
Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.
If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.
The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.
Please be aware that a summary of your enquiry, without your contact details, will appear on this page once submitted. This ensures others are aware that an enquiry has been made and can read the response to avoid duplicate enquiries. J P Sworder - "To the glory of God and in proud and loving memory of the only children of/John William and Annie Jane Sworder of Barkway/Lieutenant/John Perkins Sworder/educated at Haileybury College/sometime acting adjutant/to the 2/5th Battalion of/The Queen's Regiment/attached to the 1/1 Hereford Regmt/He fought in Palestine May-June 1918/and died in France July 24 1918 aged 29/from wounds received in action/the previous day near Parcy-Tigny/his body lies in the British cemetery near Longpont/Departmt of the Aisne. One of his brother Officers said of him/"A splendid Officer and a very gallant gentleman" Their lives they laid down for King and Country/and their souls they rendered up to God." H P Sworder - "Across the top-To the glory of god and in proud & loving memory of the only children of/John William and Annie Jane Sworder of Barkway Right Hand Panel- Lieutenant/Hubert Pelham Sworder/educated at Haileybury College /and at Sandhurst at which latter place/he became under officer/though the youngest of his company/gazetted to/The Queen's Regiment/He became temporary captain/before he was 19/joining the royal Flying Corps/he was killed in aerial action between Arras and Cambrai April 2nd 1917/aged 19/+/ "His Squadron Commander wrote of him/"extraordinarily brave. A true type of the best that England can produce" Across the bottom,- "Their lives they laid down for King and Country/and their souls they rendered up to God"."
