About the memorial: Stainless steel plaque on a granite boulder, at the north east corner of the quay. This is where Lieutenant Lapenotiere stepped onto Falmouth’s Fish Strand Quay, bearing the news of The Battle of Trafalgar, at about 11a.m. on the 4th of November 1805. From there he headed to a hotel—probably The Royal Hotel—to engage a post-chaise express carriage. This is marked by a series of plaques along what is now known as 'The Trafalgar Way'- see various WMO reports. The Way is traditionally seen as starting at what is now Falmouth Art Gallery and Library- WMO/289566. From the wording on the plaque it seems that there was a previous plaque at the same location. It is unknown whether that was replaced to change the wording, or for other reasons.
