About the memorial: Nowy-headed rectangular board, with a carved Portsmouth City Police crest top-centre, beneath which is the gold-painted inscription; two separate brass plaques, bearing the names of Portsmouth City Police's casualties in each World War, are fixed above and below a carved cross in the main body of the board. Immediately beneath that board is a supplementary panel, having a central roundel containing the emblem of the National Association of Retired Police Officers (NARPO), around which are arranged three small brass plaques, each engraved with the name of a further casualty; two relate to Portsmouth City Police WW 2 casualties, the third relates to a Portsmouth Borough Police casualty of the Second Boer War. The WW1 element of this replaces a lost stone tablet which has a separate IWM Register entry.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.
