About the memorial: Southern Railway 4-6-2 Light Pacific locomotive, with two rectangular brass nameplates with raised letters on a pale sky-blue background, each with the wording BATTLE OF BRITAIN CLASS in smaller lettering at the base. Each locomotive had two vitreous enamelled oval badges on a air force blue background within a gunmetal surround with the appropriate squadron crest or the badge of the Royal Air Force, where no specific crest was available. As originally built the locomotives had air-smoothed casings and the nameplate was applied above the badge, but when rebuilt without the casings the badge was placed above the nameplate mounted on the running plate. NOTE- after the closure of RAF Bentley Priory and its subsequent conversion to a museum this is believed to have been moved to the RAF Museum. Intending viewers should check with both venues before travelling. The pin location is currently on Bentley Priory as that is the last confirmed location.
