Type: Non freestanding
Location: External
Setting: Attached to a building/structure
Description: Board/Plaque/ Tablet
Lettering: Incised
About the memorial: Stone Tablet with moulded border. This was, of course, not its name in 1915. In the 1915 London street directory, the occupiers are listed as John Phillips (Brass foundry and lamp Co.) Ltd. and West and Price, manufacturing jewellers. Clearly Phillips and Co were better placed to cast the plaque on the building, which bears their governing director’s name. The premises were rebuilt in 1917, and have now been sympathetically modernised and named- the name seems to derive from the late 20th/early 21st century. War Memorials Trust would not consider this to be a war memorial for its funding purposes. The plaque seems to be informative rather than commemorative of people impacted by war. We will leave the record online as it will be of interest to visitors to the website, but have marked it as ineligible for funding.

As a conservation charity which gives grants War Memorials Trust can support repair and conservation works that follow best conservation practice. Grants are awarded from funds raised by the charity so money available is limited and is therefore focused on eligible war memorials.

War Memorials Trust’s Definition of a war memorial for funding purposes helpsheet explains which war memorials are eligible and ineligible for funding.

As a charity, War Memorials Trust relies on voluntary donations and every contribution, no matter how large or small, makes a really big difference to our work. Your donation will help protect and conserve war memorials for future generations so please support War Memorials Trust’s work.
