About the memorial: A small raised garden faced with black marble tiles, at one end of which is a soldier in full kit, rifle over his shoulder, marching past a mother, who is waving a flag, and a child. The figures are wickerwork. Nearby is an interpretative plaque on a steel stand. The plaque is entitled Coming Home, but the images and wording below relate to the Borough's four recipients of the Victoria Cross. On the right-hand side of the plaque is an image of the Victoria Cross and ribbon, with photographs of the four men arranged around. On the left-hand side are brief accounts of the men, and a brief explanation of Six Before Breakfast - the six VCs awarded to members of the 1st Bn. Lancashire Fusiliers at Gallipoli in 1915 - of which two, Kenealy and Grimshaw, were from the Borough. T
