About the memorial: A landscape feature comprising figures cut into the topsoil, cultivated and sown with red poppies which bloom against the green of the surrounding pasture. However, following the original sowing the poppies declined and creeping thistle subsequently predominated although remaining a visible feature. The feature lies on the hillside west of Chevin House Farm which is in Belper Parish but close to Hazelwood Parish. North Lane is a bridle path and the nearest public roads are Farnah Green Road or Firestone to the west, or Chevin Road to the east, but none of these give access to the memorial as it lies on private land. It is visible from the higher ground east of the River Derwent and south of Belper around Cowhill.
