Status: On original site
Type: Freestanding
Location: External
Setting: Within a garden/park/churchyard/enclosure/Marketplace
Description: Addition to Gravestone
Materials:
  • Stone Marble
Lettering: Leaded
Conflicts:
  • First World War (1914-1918)
About the memorial: An addition to white marble kerbstones on a family grave. The plain oblong kerbs have an inlaid inscription in upright capital block lettering on the upper faces with the maker's name at the foot. It is east of the chapel, up the hill towards the woodland. The CWGC entry for George merely states that his wife and two children were lost with him- they do not get separate entries as they were Civilians. There were very strict and complex rules as to who the CWGC commemorated, unfair as that decision may seem to some now.

Some war memorials are not eligible for funding from War Memorials Trust.
Further information is provided on our helpsheet ‘Definition of a war memorial for funding purposes’.

As a conservation charity which gives grants War Memorials Trust can support repair and conservation works that follow best conservation practice. Grants are awarded from funds raised by the charity so money available is limited and is therefore focused on eligible war memorials.

War Memorials Trust’s Definition of a war memorial for funding purposes helpsheet explains which war memorials are eligible and ineligible for funding.

As a charity, War Memorials Trust relies on voluntary donations and every contribution, no matter how large or small, makes a really big difference to our work. Your donation will help protect and conserve war memorials for future generations so please support War Memorials Trust’s work.
