About the memorial: A white marble sculpture depicting an anchor with a scroll unfurled over it. A cross, wreathed with foliage, protrudes from the right side of the scroll and the whole, together with a book, rests on a tablet bearing a coat of arms in relief. The scroll has the Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840 in relief at the head and contains the incised inscription in upright capital roman lettering coloured black. The sculpture is attached to a dark grey mottled marble backboard with maker's name incised at the bottom right corner in upright capital lettering. It is on the south wall of the nave. Although he died at home at an advanced age this tablet was clearly intended as a memorial to his exploits in the Napoleonic Wars, and this report reflects that local wish.
