About the memorial: A hand-painted and written paper Roll of Honour for 1914-1915. In the border at the top is the heraldic symbol of the town - a ram's head emerging from a crown. Painted below is a battleship sailing at full speed ahead. Above the Roll of names is a lion on a pedestal from which the Union flag and the white ensign emerge at an angle. To the left of this scene there is a painting of a soldier in full kit, with shouldered rifle, whilst on the right is a sailor in full kit, standing at ease with his rifle. The names are set in two columns, with the rank and unit of each man. On each side, towards the bottom of the names panel, there is a roundel with a painting depicting a battle scene. The dates are written in the border below. The border carries a geometric pattern.
