About the memorial: Additional wording on a family gravestone. The memorial comprises a tall sandstone headstone with a semicircular arch top, a narrow incised border, an inscription incised in upright capital lettering and the mason's name incised in the bottom left corner. The headstone is accompanied by plain oblong sandstone kerbs, partly displaced. It is Southwest of the chapel, between the southern boundary and the main path. HMS Atalanta was a 26-gun frigate used as a training ship. She left Bermuda on 31 January, 1880 bound for Portsmouth but disappeared in early February and was presumed to have foundered in a storm, probably between 12 and 16 February. All hands were lost.
