About the memorial: A shrine comprising the Madonna and Child within a wooden frame. The carved wooden figure of the Madonna is wearing a red, blue and gold gown and the Child is dressed in white. The figures are contained within a varnished polygonal frame with a canopy of carved pierced tracery and with panelling at the sides. At the foot is an oblong brass plaque bearing the incised inscription in upright capital roman lettering. It is on the north wall of the north aisle. c1957: A new north aisle was built and the memorial was presumably moved to its present position from elsewhere. According to CWGC his wife lived at Westcliff on Sea.
