About the memorial: Memorial to Captain Mervyn Crawshay, 5th Dragoon Guards. Son of Son of Tudor Crawshay and Marie Augusta Hester Crawshay (nee Ayres). He married Violet Adelaide Wauhope (nee von Mumm) in 1912. He was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant in the Worcestershire Regiment and served in the South African War. He gained the Queen's South Africa Medal with two clasps. In Feb 1908 he was promoted to Lieutenant then to Captain in Apr 1911. In Aug 1914 he was sent to France with the British Expeditionary Forces and was killed in action at Wyscheate near Ypres on 31 Oct 1914 aged 33 years. He was buried in Cement House Cemetery, Langemark, Belgium. He is also commemorated on the Farnham War Memorial Cross, Surrey and on the Llantwit Major Memorial Cross in Llantwit Major, Vale Of Glamorgan, Wales.
