About the memorial: Stone of Remembrance- a Latin cross on a staged base. While she is buried here this is a different memorial to her war grave, which has a family gravestone, not a CWGC one. As with all Civilians CWGC don't actually tell you the location of her burial. She lived in the caravans of the Bond family of fairground showmen, a family which today can boast of six generations in the fairground business. Three bombs fell in open ground between the Pincott Road junction and the railway on 16 August 1940, where the caravans were parked. Caroline Bond was killed, and her mother, Mary Ann Bond, injured. Caroline, who was 19, was a worker at Venner Time Switches factory on the A3 near Shannon Corner (where the workers had shelters). Caroline's cousin Amy lays flowers every year on the family (war) grave here.
