About the memorial: A series of stainless steel posts arranged in groups for each of the four locations where 52 people died. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mayfair & Hyde Park Walk: On 7th July 2005 there were 4 London Tube and Bus bombings. Each of the 52 identical cast stainless steel pillars bears the date and location of each of the particular bombings and they are arranged in four clusters to reflect each incident Tavistock Square, Edgware Road, King’s Cross, Aldgate East Tube Station). This memorial would fall outside of WMT's definition of a war memorial, rather a 'commemorative object of terrorist act'. The plaque at the far end of the site names each of the victims and you can see by reading their names that they reflect a variety of nationalities who were of all faiths and ages and each an innocent bystander. Antony Gormley (the sculptor) acted as an advisor to the development of the memorial said : “Using the language of architecture to make order out of chaos, this monument is an opportunity for lost victims to be in contact with the living through a process of discovery, where the memorial’s structure becomes complete through the presence and body language of a curious visitor” The strong upright pillars could be said to represent the strength of the will of Londoners to stand up to the terrorists who perpetrated this atrocity. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Route:Continue walking southwards through the edge of the park. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
