About the memorial: Six vertical coloured stained glass windows in two sets of three, each pane depicts a scene of the military services in action during the Great War. The scenes are shown in circular panels in the centre, with a border of acanthus leaves, and yellow bands diagonally and vertical bands which have within the borders symbols of a military nature. The scenes are: Left Group: Panel 1 - army officer on horseback encouraging wounded troops returning from the field of battle with a ruined house and destroyed artillery pieces in the background. Panel 2 - Royal Navy battleships steaming at speed possibly in connection with the Battle of Jutland 1916. Panel 3 - Army troops in pith helmets marching through a town with people in background wearing fez hats, possibly in connection with the conquest of Palestine. Right Group: Panel 4 - RAF fighters in a dogfight with a German Zeppelin airship over a seaside village. Panel 5 - Merchant ships in convoy with dazzle camouflage and one vessel with large gun. Panel 6 - Army tanks approaching trenches, possibly the first use of armoured fighting vehicle in the Battle of Cambrai. 1918.
