About the memorial: In the Crypt, Nelson Chamber, a freestone wall panel with a bronze centrepiece relief of an officer on horseback and 6 panels with rolls of names. The centrepiece, with arched top, represents a mounted Yeoman with a brimmed hat and cartridge holder across his chest. The brown freestone surround has a segmental arch and corresponding moulded border and below on a splayed base is the memorial inscription painted in gold. Below that is a bronze panel with lists of names, and a shield of arms at lower right. The memorial has a large apron bracket carved with a winged cupid, side panels inscribed with further lists of names (representing the World War I (1914-1918) and a separate inscribed panel on the wall below (representing World War II (1939-1945). Separate components but clearly a single memorial.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
