About the memorial: A Canadian Maple tree within a wooden and wire guard frame which bears a metal plaque with an inscription incised in upright capital lettering. The tree is in private agricultural land just behind a drystone wall on the south side of the road opposite the junction with Warehouse Lane at National Grid Reference SK 16005 83413. Sergeant Wilkinson was amongst the crew killed when their aeroplane crashed close to the village of Hope on 15 February 1943. It was.a Vickers Armstrong Wellington Mk 3 HF613 coded DD-R, from No 22 Operational Training Unit, RAF Wellesbourne Mountford, No 1 Group, Bomber Command.
