Status: On original site
Type: Freestanding
Location: External
Setting: Within a garden/park/churchyard/enclosure/Marketplace
Description: Addition to Gravestone
Materials:
  • Stone Limestone
Lettering: Incised
Conflicts:
  • Second World War (1939-1945)
About the memorial: An addition to a headstone on a family grave. The plain limestone headstone has a rebated top and is accompanied by plain oblong kerbs. The inlaid inscription is in mainly upright capital block lettering. It is in the newer part of the churchyard north of the church between the side gate and the garden of remembrance. There is also an oblong limestone vase on the grave. The plain limestone vase has a rebated top and a circular aperture on the top for flowers. Marking suggests that the aperture may have been covered with a metal grille but that is missing. The inlaid inscription is in upright capital decorative lettering on the face of the vase. Given the date of death it is unclear whether this is a WW2 death but it is assigned here to WW2 for simplicity. He is on CWGC so it is a legitimate record.
