About the memorial: A framed and glazed printed paper roll of honour with handwritten details. A king's crown is at the head and the main heading is in black sentence case gothic lettering with the remainder in upright capital roman lettering in red and black. The names are written in blue-black sentence case cursive lettering and arranged in three columns, four of the names being marked with a red asterisk, with a footnote Killed in Action. The roll has a thin ruled red border with a small red formy cross each corner. The frame is of moulded oak. The church is on the east side of Mapleton Road near the junction with Yerley Hill. The tablet is inside, on the south wall of the nave. Mapleton Road is also known as Ashbourne Road. The village name is pronounced Mappleton and is so spelt on some modern maps (including Google maps) but historically it was spelt Mapleton. No road names are given on Ordnance Survey maps and those used may not have been formally designated.
