Status: On original site
Type: Freestanding
Location: External
Setting: Within a garden/park/churchyard/enclosure/Marketplace
Description: Addition to Gravestone
Materials:
  • Stone Limestone
Lettering: Leaded
Conflicts:
  • 20th Century Wars
About the memorial: Additional lettering on a headstone on a family grave. The low limestone headstone has a flat top, panels to each side with floral designs in relief and with triangular arch tops projecting above the central panel which bears the inscription inlaid mainly in upright capital lettering. The headstone is accompanied by plain limestone kerbs. It is north west of the church, on the right side of the central path when walking up the hill. To be "killed in action" in 1922 this is clearly not WW1, the date is also beyond the end of CWGC records for "WW1". There is no ready source of information for in service deaths between the wars, probably the easiest way to determine more information would be the General Register Office Register of Military Deaths- this is not online but should be available at most Archive Centres.
