About the memorial: An addition to the lettering on a family gravestone. The tall sandstone headstone has a semi-circular arch top, stepped and hollowed shoulders, a panel at the head bearing a cross on a stepped base in relief and is surrounded by a raised border and nailhead motif. The inscription is incised in mainly upright capital block lettering coloured black. The headstone is accompanied by an inclined tablet in the style of an open book with a further inscription. The tablet is supported on a base and the grave is surrounded by oblong sandstone kerbs. It is near the north east corner of the church. Joseph is elusive to find on the CWGC database. This is actually Luke's war grave. According to CWGC he was with the Durham Light Infantry when he died, the Leicestershire Regiment was his previous regiment.
