About the memorial: An oblong black granite tablet set into the inclined top of a red brick pedestal. The polished face bears a gilded incised inscription in upright capital roman lettering with names in two columns in upright capital block lettering. Osmaston, Derby was historically known as Osmaston-by-Derby. The memorial is to the rear of the Marble Hall, accessible from the reception area at the main entrance. Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

27 July, 1942: A German Dornier 217 bomber dropped a stick of four bombs, one hitting the Rolls-Royce works and the other three hitting nearby houses. Twenty two civilians and one soldier were killed and 120 people injured. 2007: The Rolls-Royce factory closed. Spring 2012: Osmaston Community Association of Residents decided to work towards erecting a memorial. c2013: The redundant factory was demolished (except for the office block). Following the demolition of the factory the site was designated for residential redevelopment. The Marble Hall was refurbished and an area to the rear was laid out as a paved concourse for use by the tenants of the building and the local community. Beyond the paved area a garden was laid out and the memorial was erected on its edge. c2016: A garden at the rear of the office block was laid out and preparations made for the installation of a memorial. 27 July, 2017: On the 75th anniversary of the attack, to the day, the memorial was unveiled by Mr Peter Felix and Mr Peter Kirk of the Derbyshire Historical Aviation Society. The names of the fallen were read by The Mayor of Derby, Cllr John Whitby, and the memorial was dedicated by The Bishop of Derby, The Right Rev Dr Alastair Redfern PhD. The ceremony was attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire, Mr William Tucker, and the High Sheriff of Derbyshire, Mrs Annie Hall. It was introduced by Cllr Baggy Shankar and addressed by Mr Anton Rippon, author and journalist. Ceremonial elements were provided by members of the Royal British Legion and Derbyshire Constabulary. Survivors of the attack, and relatives of the victims, were present.
