About the memorial: Dark polished wooden board, with a carved broken pediment. The Brighton Borough coat of arms is below this, flanked by the painted names of the theatres of war in which officers served. The section beneath has a carved wooden pillar each side, which have stepped tops and bases. At top-centre of the panels between the pillars are painted two crossed Union Flags and a green ribbon bearing the gold-painted words "Roll of Honour". The upper panel relates to World War 1, and records the names of those who died, followed (below a gold-painted line) by the names of those who served. The lower panel relates to World War 2, and bears the gold-painted dedication and names of those who died in that War. (N.B. Aside from a few exceptions, the memorial records only the surnames of the Brighton Police officers who served/died; it doe not include their initials/forenames).

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.
