Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

Before applying for a grant you should read the advice available on War Memorials Trust`s website. The What we can and cannot fund helpsheet explains what types of work the charity can fund.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

You can save your Pre-application enquiry form as you go along. Once submitted War Memorials Trust will respond.

IPPLEPEN AND THE GREAT WAR 1914 - 1918./ IPPLEPEN WITH ITS POPULATION OF 768, CONTRIBUTED 181 MEN TO THE FIGHT-/ ING SERVICES./ ON THE OUTBREAK OF WAR, ON AUGUST 4TH 1914, THERE WERE 25 MEN IN THE ARMY & NAVY/ & 156 WERE RECRUITED DURING THE HOSTILITIES, THE OLDEST VOLUNTEERING AT THE AGE OF 54, AND/ THE YOUNGEST AT 14. OF THESE, 25 WERE KILLED OR DIED ON SERVICE, 29 WERE WOUNDED, & 4 WERE DECORATED FOR GALLANT SERVICES IN THE FIELD./ IPPLEPEN MEN IN THE NAVY TOOK PART IN THE ACTIONS AT THE DOGGER BANK, HELIGOLAND/ BIGHT, THE DARDANELLES, JUTLAND, OSTEND & ZEBRUGGE. THERE WERE IPPLEPEN MEN IN THE/ FIRST ARMY THAT FOUGHT AT MONS & IN THE RETREAT ON PARIS, & MEN FROM THE PARISH FOUGHT/ IN EACH OF THE WAR AREAS: FRANCE, BELGIUM, ITALY, SALONIKA, GALLIPOLI, PALESTINE, EGYPT, MESOPOTAMIA, TOGOLAND, EAST AFRICA & RUSSIA./ WOMEN OF THE PARISH UNDERTOOK RED CROSS & HOSPITAL WORK: OTHERS SERVED IN QUEEN MARY'S WOMEN'S ARMY AUXILIARY CORPS, & THE LAND WORKER'S CORPS. LOCAL WORKING-/ PARTIES SUPPLIED LARGE QUANTITIES OF SURGICAL REQUISITES & GARMENTS./ THE PARISH MADE MANY UNITED RESPONSES TO THE CALLS FOR HELP, CONTRIBUTING £150/ TO THE DEVON PATRIOTIC FUND & OTHER LARGE SUMS FOR RED CROSS WORK, FOR THE TRAINING OF/ MEN DISABLED OR BLINDED ON SERVICE, & FOR THE RELIEF OF THE SUFFERERS IN SERBIA, SYRIA &/ PALESTINE, OF THE CHILDREN OF DEVESTATED AREAS, & OF PRISONERS OF WAR./ ON THE SIGNING OF PEACE THE RETURNED MEN WERE PUBLICLY ENTERTAINED./ AS MEMORIALS TO THE PARISHIONERS WHO FELL DURING THE WAR, THE ANCIENT VILLAGE CROSS WAS RESTORED BY PUBLIC SUBSCRIPTION OF £75, & A TABLET BEARING THEIR NAMES PLA/ CED IN THE PARISH CHURCH, AT A FURTHER COST OF #55./ THIS PERMANENT RECORD IS PLACED IN THE COUNCIL SCHOOL ROOM THAT AFTER GEN-/ ERATIONS MAY KNOW THE PART WHICH IPPLEPEN TOOK IN THE GREAT WAR, & THE NAMES/ OF THE MEN WHO SERVED./ (NAMES)
