About the memorial: A short sandstone pillar with two metal plaques commemorating the 33 men who lost their lives on the night of 4 April 1944 when a Stirling IV aircraft and its towed Horsa glider crashed. The glider crashed at Warnford Park below the hill and the aircraft crashed about 15 minutes later near Romsey. The memorial site overlooks the villages of Exton, Meonstoke and Warnford. The memorial was erected on 4 April 2022.

Plaque 1-On the night of 4 April 1944 during rehearsals prior to D-Day and/subsequent airborne assault operations in Europe, a Stirling IV/with it's towed Horsa Glider crashed killing all 33 soldiers and airmen on/board. The aircraft were approaching from the East. It was an/extremely dark night with low cloud. It is thought that one of the/aircraft struck a tree east of Warnford Park. This led/to a catastrophic sequence of events with the Horsa crashing in/Warnford Park and the Stirling also crashing near Romsey. The Horsa/LG999 was crewed by members of the Glider Pilot Regiment and was/carrying 3 Pl. A Coy. 7th (Airborne) Bn. K.O.S.B. The Stirling IV LJ642/was from No. 196 Sqn, RAF and crewed by both RAF and RAAF airmen/[etchings of both aircraft]/Stirling crash site/Romsey 17 miles due west/Horsa Crash Site/Warnford Park 1 Mile; Plaque 2- At the going down of the sun, and in the morning/we will remember them/[etched badges of all 3 units involved]; [Column 1]- 3 Pl.
