About the memorial: Framed and glazed roll of honour naming members of the cricket and hockey clubs who served in WW1, including 22 members who died (indicated by a gold cross). Situated on the wall of the new pavilion, alongside the bronze plaque remembering those members who died in WW1 & WW2 (WMO/205076). Names listed in two columns to the left and right of the roll.

Grants to support the repair and conservation of war memorials are available from the charity War Memorials Trust if it has raised funds. Support is focused on war memorials in Very bad or Poor condition or where there is a serious Concern.

If you believe your project is eligible for a grant you should complete the Pre-application enquiry form. You will need to be registered and logged in to complete this.

The Pre-application enquiry form is a series of questions to see if your project is eligible. If it is, you will need to provide further details and submit current colour photographs of the war memorial in either a png, gif, jpg or jpeg format.

The Roll of Honour / Men who have answered their Country's call in defence of a "Scrap of Paper." / SOUTHGATE / CRICKET & HOCKEY CLUBS / 1914 - 1919. / This document is a translation and facsimile of signatures from the original treaty of 1831 / guaranteeing the independence and neutrality of Belgium, which was confirmed by the six / Powers in the famous treat of 1839, the breaking of which by Germany is responsible for the / present war with the British Empire. / The "Scrap of Paper" / ARTICLE II / Her Majesty the Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, / His Majesty the Emperor of Austria, King of Hungary and Bohemia, His Majesty / the the King of the French, His Majesty the King of Prussia, and His Majesty the / Emperor of all Russias, declare, that the Articles mentioned in the preceding / Article, are considered as having the same force and validity as if they were textually / inserted in the present Act, and that they are thus placed under the guarantee of / their said Majesties. / ARTICLE VII / Belgium, within the limits specified in Articles I.
