About the memorial: Existing chapel within the cathedral which was redesignated after the Great War. A new altar was installed and a number of memorial tablets were erected on the walls. Dedication tablets related to the Chapel itself are to be found on the piers at the ends of the wall at its entrance and on its South wall. There are three tablets commemorating Brothers of the St Vincent de Paul Society from the Parishes in the Diocese who died (WMO/258708). There are four tablets commemorating men from the Cathedral Parish and other Parishes in the Diocese who died (WMO/300788) - an Addendum to them is incorporated on the largest of the three St Vincent de Paul tablets. There is a small tablet to two brothers who died (WMO/300789). The marble facing tiles of the Chapel also bear numerous inscriptions, most simple initials, but others carry the names and date of death of individuals - one of whom is a verifiable war death (WMO/300790). There is also a Memorial to the Korean War in the form of a standard and plaque (WMO/300791). The tablets are of a similar basic design - made of white marble with the inscription panel sitting within a frame surmounted by a lancet arch, with inscriptions carved on their faces. The inscriptions are incised and blacked. The Altar and Reredos are of marble and alabaster of elaborate design incorporating triangular arched niches for candlesticks each side of the central niche containing a crucifix. The arch supports of this central feature terminate in realistic carvings of two young men.
